Now & Then. Items to CRUSH Again & Again

This past week I received a lovely link from a gorgeous friend of mine. The link was from the Leslie M. M. Blume style series in the Huffington Post. The series is entitled "Let's Bring Back". An homage to some quite endearing & beautiful items from yesteryear which Miss Blume would like to see back on the scene again. I ofcourse immediately began thinking of all the precious items which I'm always crushing (craving?) to see back in the mainstream again. So, here is my shortlist. Now & Then.
Items to Crush Again & Again

Handwritten Letters in the post.
An email or a computer message can never relay the emotion that is hidden & conveyed in our very own penstrokes. Growing up, my mom taught me the art of homemade cards & handwritten thankyou notes. I remember having at least 6 penpals when I was in the 5th grade. All summer long receiving my allowance & spending it on beautiful pastel stationaries, stickers & postal stamps. A letter truly is a gift isn't it?
Long Live the Handwritten art of letter writing.

Silhouette artforms & the beauty of a simple Cameo.
I just recently began wearing a cameo necklace which was given to me by my aunt many years ago & I've found it goes with Everything! Loving it & the way it adds a bit of chic to even a simple tee.

Hankies, Pearls & Gloves.
My grandma always wears white driving gloves to
protect her hands from the sun.
She has such gorgeous skin & lovely hands.
I think I should take a cue from her. ;)

Vanities.
Every woman should own a vanity covered with
the delectable potions, fragrances & products which
only she can use. Her own little table of magical secrets ;)

Chairs with Flair !! May they never go out of style.
The perfect chaise can make you feel like the Queen of all things.
And there's no better place to write lyrics or your dreams.
The more antique, lived in & tattered sometimes the better.
I love a good chair with a history. A story.

Old school diners. Not the newly built to look
old Mel's Hollywood Diner style diners, but the REAL deals complete
with the greasey spoons & the jukebox.
While traveling on the road with my band, we were in constant
pursuit of these hidden gems. Which I am sad to report...seem to
be too few & far between.

MORE gloves!!!!!!!!
Long ones. Short ones. Satin, cotton & needlepoint
gloves.

The trunk case. Nothing can compare to the
hard encased trunk case for traveling with your
frocks. Sure, they're a bit more difficult to maneuver &
they don't squeeze down to fit into every nook & cranny, but the
Style is second to none & not to mention the shape of your clothing once you get there....
Definitely keeps your items less wrinkled & in the exact spot where you
packed them. I've been collecting trunk cases from vintage stores for a while
& I'm seriously in LOVE with packing up for trips now!

Needlepoint tablescarves, ricrac & bright buttons.
More more more please! To remind us that life
is really hidden in the finite details which we overlook
everyday. One of my favorite aisles of any store as a child.
The buttons & ribbons aisle. Gazing for hours at the thought of
each item coming to life on some fashionable homesewn jumper.
Come to think of it, it's still my favorite aisle!! =)

The gorgeous Hedy Lamarr.
A lovely starlet whose intelligence & savvy was matched only by her beauty & elegance.
Did you know she was responsible for creating the basis
for modern mobile telephone technology during World
War II? Laying the groundwork for such modern day
items as the cordless telephone and wireless internet.
YES. More fabulous women with amazing ideas. May this
trend always continue.

CHIVALRY! I have gloriously witnessed it quite often in
my own life, thanks to a father with very high standards on how
to treat a lady. However, in general public? hmmm Well, maybe it's just
in a bit of a coma. I truly believe it's going to make it's way back onto
the scene again soon. Until then?? Watch out for those toads.....

Vintage style Beauty Parlors. The ones which were not quite so
shishi & a bit more real. Y'know the ones I mean?
Where women really talk about their lives & dreams & leave
feeling like they just received some feedback they can truly use.
Women bonding in curlers & perms.
Love it!

& Of course. Long live Hair Rollers.
Giving girls with fine lifeless hair some body & BIG for
decades. I'm a huge fan.

NOW & Then.
The Crush just keeps going on...

Je ne sais quoi

Sorry I've been away for a minute. Writing new music with the band
& making (planning) decisions for Fall & Winter'09.
And as I do so; I am often reminded of the age old adage which says
"Want to hear God laugh? Then tell him your plans..." ;)

Such a fun time of year with every design house releasing their Fall/Winter promises for chic wonderment. I am definitely enamored with so many, including Lagerfeld's latest Chanel, Chloe's vintage twist & Behnaz Sarafpour sassy dresses. However, my favorite??
The Dior Fall/Winter 2008 Haute Couture Collection
By John Galliano
It is simply breathtaking in every way.
Irresistable classical perfection.
Everything about this line says Feminine Elegance. Such an "Old School" approach
mixing modern sheer fabric with timeless, exquisite style.
I am simply in love with this collection. One of my all time favorites. Ever.
I imagine these dresses appealing to the Grace Kelly & Faye Dunaway in all of us.

The above baby blue silk chiffon is my fave.
Everything about this look is delectable to moi!
Je ne sais quoi

Also wanted to share a few of my favorite magazine covers for July...

Wishing you fabulous crushing moments & L O V E
And the Crush goes On...
